Carson

Carson just keeps getting more personality. He has also developed a bit of a temper. He clenches his fists and his teeth, then screams in fury. Then he looks at me with a fiery glare, like "Hah! So there!!" After that, he goes about his business, pleasant as ever, like nothing happened. This could be scary!

Poor baby--he has developed allergies this spring. The doctor gave us some samples of Zyrtec, which is supposedly "non-sedating." This was the result shortly after the first dose....

Everything in Spencer's room is cooler than his own. He loves to get into the books and he will sit and "read" them for a long time. Unfortunately, he's not very tidy about it!

I probably already posted this one under "Packing Peanuts," but I think he looks so cute with all that styrofoam stuck on his hair!

He has reached the age when glasses are cool, and he actually keeps them on for a while. He must have his shades on whenever we go somewhere. I get a lot of bemused smiles and comments about movie stars when we go to the grocery store because they both wear their glasses throughout the trip.

We have a magnetic Mr. Potato Head toy, with all kinds of little magnet clothes and accessories. Carson thought he'd try on Mr. Potato Head's tiny glasses. Not quite big enough.

Shoveling the playground. This was a lovely day not long ago when it actally felt like springtime.

Every morning when Daddy goes to work, Spencer and Carson wait by this window for a "window kiss." Daddy goes outside, puts the newspaper on the porch for me, and gives the boys a goodbye kiss through the screen, no matter the weather. It is a new tradition, invented by Spencer.

Carson's new thing is firemen. He is crazy about this classic little book I got, called "The Fire Engine Book." We have read it more times than I can count. I finally had to put the fireman hat away for a while because there was too much arguing about who could wear it all the time.

My Sunshine

Today Spencer got a special certificate from his teacher for "being happy." He really is a very happy little person. He is loved by many, even people who have never met him but hear about him through the grapevine. Here are some pics of my sunshine boy....

Practicing soccer in the backyard. Can't get enough of that lately! In our soccer set were a few orange cones, like this one. They were immediately put to use as hats by the boys.

Saturday was a busy day for Spencer: a birthday party in the morning, then his friend across the street invited him over to play. Andy suddenly got a bee in his bonnet to go out and fly Spencer's kite (sans Spencer). He left Carson sitting in the wagon, to "watch," and had a blast with the Winnie the Pooh kite. He even made me call over to the neighbors' to have the boys come out and watch him. They were somewhat unimpressed. When Spencer came home, he gave it a try and really showed up his father!

Last week Andy and Spencer went on a little vacation together. Here's Spence in the airport. They had a great time, "the two dudes," just making plans day by day. Andy didn't look at the computer for the first three days. It was the best thing he's done for himself in a long time. The night before they left, Spencer was so excited and told his daddy, "I can't wait to be with you!"

One day they went to the local library. In the kids' corner there were some puzzles. Spencer declared, "I guess I better show the other kids how to do these puzzles." He thought kids in a place like Cadillac, MI must not be smart enough!
One day Andy picked up his book before going into the bathroom (as is his habit). Spencer observed and scolded, "Daddy! What did I tell you about touching things when you're in the bathroom?!"
Spencer likes me to lie down with him at night for a minute or two before he goes to sleep. I've had a cough for the last week or so. Anticipating a disturbance, he said, "Mom, if you need to cough, just forget about it!" I think he may have meant "try not to think about it," but it came out a little more harshly!

A Grin for the Day

There is nothing in the world that cheers up the heart like a little boy's (or girl's) giggle! Here are some of the most recent pictures that always make me smile.

I helped with a women's church activity a few weeks ago. We had lots of balloons for decoration, and I brought some home for the boys. They loved tying them around their waists and dancing around. We had to keep an eye on Carson because he was so busy watching his balloon that he didn't look where he was going!

They are such pals--they love to make noise together, like sitting on pillows and saying, "Yah, yah, yah" over and over in harmony. The noise is not my favorite, but I do enjoy seeing them laugh at each other!

Carson always smiles biggest when his brother is taking the picture.

"Exercising" with Daddy--reach for the stars!

What a couple of hunks!

And they can look very studious, too. They've got it all!

This is what happens when you drink a smoothie with the cup pressed right up to your face!

Soccer Practice

Spencer went to his first soccer practice today. It was sooo exciting! We went to buy some cleats and shin guards yesterday. He's been wanting to wear them ever since. Finally he got to put them on tonight. He thought about soccer all day long and at one point mentioned that he would be so good, "the bigger kids will say, 'Whoa! Look at that man go!!' " His team is called the Dragons, and they are the yellow team. What could be better? (Yellow is his very favorite color.) He also got his favorite number (10) on his jersey. Now he wants to play soccer ALL the time!!

He was very worried about who would play goalie. I guess he got a turn!

This is his new friend, Addie. They were all supposed to stand in a circle and holds hands while listening to instructions. The two of them continued holding hands long after everyone else had stopped. He is a ladies' man!!

Packing Peanuts

A couple of days ago I received a package of stuff I had ordered. It came in a large box FULL of styrofoam packing peanuts. You can imagine the fun to be had, but you don't have to imagine, because I recorded it all....

It was the most horrible mess I think we've ever had in this house--worse than any Christmas I can recall. I'm still finding little pieces of styrofoam here and there. The laughter was worth it though!

Silly Shots

I'm back! Things have been busy the last few weeks. Andy is in and out of town, which means things are a little less routine for me, too. So now I have a bunch of pictures I've been saving up for all my readers! (Thanks for taking interest.)

Poor teddy bear--I thought the boys were the only ones who slept on their heads!

Peekaboo Carson!! Hope he doesn't give people the willies.

Two peas in a pod. They love to be together.

Little Red Riding Hood--the better to squish your cheeks, my dear!

I didn't think life was THAT boring around here!

My budding baker. He helped me make some special cookies for Grandpa one day.

And a baby baker, too! We didn't have two baker hats, so Spencer settled for a popcorn bowl. Whatever works!

A cozy pre-nap moment with Grandma.

Double trouble

Mmmmm! He likes to lick the beater!

There's a happy little chocolate smile!

Snow Day

We've been getting plenty of snow here lately. Spencer is thrilled about it. At least someone is!

One day he wanted to go out sooo bad. I wasn't quite so enthusiastic, but I bundled us all up and we went out. Within five minutes, Carson had a runny nose, wouldn't keep his mittens on, and kept falling down and crying because he could barely move. While trying to keep him happy and myself dry, I was expected to produce a snowman of epic proportions. Luckily I was able to convince my eldest child that it was best to keep the baby happy and take him inside, so the excursion didn't last as long as I feared it might.

Snuggling with Grandma S.

"So happy together..."
Today was storytime at the library. The theme was germs and getting sick. The story lady passed around a small package to represent germs and demonstrate how easily illness is passed along. Spencer didn't say anything about it until tonight at his bedtime snack. He thoughtfully remarked, "Those pretend germs really gave me the sicks!" I guess even pretending grossed him out!
Carson had the opportunity of watching his big brother pee standing up tonight. Apparently he's never seen such a marvelous trick and thought it was hilarious. He giggled and giggled. Good incentive for future potty training, I suppose.
